Intro to Song Writing

In this class, we'll briefly discuss the unique role that original songs can fill in the barbershop world. We'll go through the Song Start Process and come up with one or more ideas for a great Barbershop song. We'll follow the creation of a song from start to finish. You'll receive a Songwriter's Guide to help you along on your journey.

In this workshop we will explore and develop the basic skills needed to begin to enjoy the mind-blowing practice of improvising in the barbershop style. Listening while singing. Anticipating the next suggested chord change. Quickly finding a missing note in a chord. Learning some general guidelines for the various voice parts. Enjoying the results of your discoveries.

Spend an hour learning some barbershop tags and some best teaching practices. While folks using phone Apps like GOOD TAGS and TAGMASTER are welcome, the intention for this session is learning by ear and noticing that breaking tags up into bite sized chunks will often be much more rewarding for all.
