Will Fox is the Artistic Director of the growing and re-shaped SenateAires Barbershop Chorus in Salem, OR. He teaches and directs an award-winning music department at Westside Christian High School in Portland, Oregon. Just last month, Will's Concert Choir won its 15th out of the past sixteen Oregon State Choir Championships, and his Concert Band also qualified for the Oregon State Band Championships and has won 4 state championships in its seven years as a competing band! He is also he Conductor of the Tsunami and Rogue Tenor/Bass choirs of Portland's prestigious Pacific Youth Choir program. In his spare time, will enjoys family and coaching choirs, quartets, and choruses.
SOLI DEO GLORIA WINS THE BHS MIDWINTER CONVENTION JUNIOR CHORUS CHAMPIONSHIP - One of Will's biggest thrills and accomplishments this year was taking his high school small varsity vocal ensemble,
Soli Deo Gloria (as well as the quartet, Public Noise Complaint), to compete and perform at the
Junior Chorus and Quartet Contest at the BHS MidWinter Convention in San Antonio, TX, where
Soli caputured its division championship and
PNC finished 6th in the quartet contest! Soli also
performed at the Evergreen District Championship in Portland last October to a thrilling standing ovation from the audience! Soli's year was filled with additional accolades, including winning the Clackamas Community College Vocal Jazz Festival in March, and the Oregon Music Educators Association state championship in Contemporary Vocal Ensemble just last month, singing barbershop! We were hopeful of bringing Soli to HCNW this week, but there were too many conflicts.
SENATEAIRES CHORUS - In his late teens, Will sang in the old Rose City Close Harmony Music Men chorus and in the popular quartet, Brothers and Others. Regrettably out of barbershop for the next 35 years, Will reentered the hobby in 2014 as Associate Director of the SenateAires Chorus in Salem, OR, helping lead the chorus into a couple of International appearances. However, the chorus hit a real low right before the pandemic, losing many members and it's long-tenured director in a tumultuous time, and the chorus was nearly lost. Will and some essential leaders led the chorus through the pandemic and helped save the chorus from extinction. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Will and his circle of leaders have slowly and methodically reshaped this storied chorus into a positive, thriving, high-level singing, entertaining, community-serving ensemble! Even with the natural fluctuations of membership, the chorus has enjoyed a 56% growth in stage performers over the past two years, with many of those singers in their 20s and early 30s! Will has won numerous chorus awards with the SenateAires and quartet awards with One Man Short, Adult Supervision, and Sweet Sauce. He enjoys the privilege of coaching many quartets and choruses/choirs and looks forward to teaching at and enjoying HCNW again this summer!
